With members in action on a couple of theatrical fronts this week, here’s an additional bulletin to bring you up to date…

Southwest Scriptwriters curate, direct and write in Bierkeller New Writing Showcase

Group member and Royal Court writer, Amy Bethan Evans, has curated eight short scripts by writers from Bristol and beyond for presentation in Bierkeller Theatre’s first New Writing Showcase this Monday to Wednesday, 14 to 16 October.

The eclectic octet of new plays includes Heather Lister’s Threads, which she says should be just recognisable as a piece discussed at a group meeting in November 2011.

Workshop regular Ross Willis also sees action in the showcase, directing Rosie Gailor’s monologue A Question’s Mark.

In her role as Bierkeller Theatre’s Associate Dramaturg, Amy is planning similar showcase events in future.

Som’at this week and Kidnapped at Christmas at Brass Works Theatre

RumDoxy Theatre Company brings its fresh take on Much Ado About Nothing to South Gloucestershire’s new theatre this Tuesday to Saturday, 15 to 19 October.

Much Ado About Som’at, Jo Hopkins’ adaptation of the Bard’s popular comedy, sets the action in a world inspired by the 1980s, and the show promises energetic performances with a sprinkling of ribaldry and an injection of dance.

Catch performances at Brass Works Theatre, Tower Lane, Warmley, Bristol, BS30 8XT at 7.30pm on Tuesday to Saturday or at the matinee at 2.30pm on Saturday.

Following the success of his quirky adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Mystery of the Hound of the Baskervilles for BWT’s Christmas 2012 production, Bruce Fellows is now working on a stage version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Kidnapped for presentation at the theatre this festive season. Get a sneak preview of BWT’s 2013 yuletide offering at our meeting at Watershed on 22 October when Bruce is bringing the first 30 minutes of the draft script for your feedback.
