Here’s a newsletter extra to remind you of a couple of our upcoming events and bring you an update on another.

Rabbit Ears premieres tonight

The first performance of our 2010 production in association with Theatre West, Rabbit Ears by Bruce Fellows, is tonight, Tuesday, 16 November, at 8.30pm in the Alma Tavern Theatre, 18-20 Alma Vale Road, BS8 2HY:

‘The clock’s ticking; her world might crumble, so Bren needs a good mate to be there for her. Someone she can rely on, someone she can talk to about stuff: anxiety, love, conscience. But if Rosie thinks we’re just a bunch of chemicals, where do finer feelings come into it? And what about those rabbit ears? Well, a bunny’s not a bunny without them, is she?’

Theatre West chose Bruce’s play from 20 submissions it received from the group in July. Alison Comley, the company’s joint artistic director, is directing the show, which is at the Alma on Tuesday to Saturday evenings until 27 November.

Museum Pieces inspirational session

Anna Farthing will be at the group meeting on 30 November to launch Museum Pieces — which invites you to write a ten-minute (1800-word) monologue or simple dialogue inspired by an exhibit in Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery to be performed alongside the artifact next spring — and will be leading an inspirational session to help you pick your piece at the Museum the following day.

The muse-finding session starts at the Museum in Queen’s Road, BS8 1RL, at 6pm on Wednesday, 1 December. Meet at the reception desk in the front hall for an introduction in the conference room before setting out to explore the galleries — please ask at reception if you arrive after 6pm. Bring a notebook and pencil to jot down your ideas (no clipboards or ink, though, thanks) and you can take photographs for personal use (but please leave your tripod at home).

We’ll adjourn to Browns restaurant and bar next door for a drink and chat about what we found when the Museum closes at 8pm.

Come along and make an inspirational start to December.

Last chances for The Write Response

There are still some slots available for you to get feedback on your response to You, Me and Wii by Sue Townsend at our meetings on 23 and 30 November. You need to have had your ten-minute (1800-word) script or script extract read at a meeting by the end of this month to be in with a chance of winning a £50 Amazon gift certificate.

To recap quickly on The Write Response: in September we invited you to write an original short script (for stage, screen, radio or television) inspired by You, Me and Wii, which was part of the Women — Power and Politics: Now season of plays produced by London’s Tricycle Theatre earlier this year. Group members who workshop their responses at a meeting before or on 30 November can submit them by the closing date of 14 December, and Catherine Johnson will decide which one wins the prize — I’ll email details of how to submit to everyone eligible early next month.
