Here are some summer news items we thought it best to let you know about before our next full update in September:

BBC Radio Bristol short drama strand
BBC Radio Bristol hopes to include more drama in its output, and local director, Rebecca Goff, has come up with a proposal for this. Rebecca’s idea is that the strand might consist of either five-minute weekday single dramas or a drama series in five five-minute episodes with the Monday to Thursday editions ending in a cliffhanger and a 25-minute omnibus edition at the weekend. Writers should aim their dramas at the 50-plus age range and preferably include local interest in their scripts. Funding for the project has yet to be finalised, but there would be payment for any scripts produced and broadcast work would help its writer get noticed by the BBC. We’ll schedule a meeting in the autumn for Rebecca to hear your scripts for this project.

Marchmont Films 2006 Feature Script Scheme
Marchmont Films is currently accepting low-budget feature film scripts with a strong commercial potential for professional packaging and development. For full details, including how to submit an entry, please visit Marchmont Films’ website.

New Literary Policy at the Finborough
London’s Finborough Theatre is now accepting unsolicited new plays as part of a six month trial period from April to October 2006. The Finborough did not previously accept unsolicited work. Scripts will be dealt with by the newly-appointed Literary Manager, Alexandra Wood, and a team of script readers in association with the Artistic Director. They are seeking plays and new writers specifically for the Finborough Theatre, not just ‘good’ plays.
