Our second season of 2006 carries straight on from our first season without a break. All meetings take place in the Macready Room at the Bristol Old Vic. Ask at the bar on the first floor for directions. Everyone attending pays £1.

A reading of Richard’s new stage play about a divorced man, Owen, who invites his daughter, Sophie, home for the weekend to meet his new partner. Unknown to him, Sophie has also invited several other guests to stay. In the course of a single evening, various members of different families turn up at Owen’s house, and people’s relationships get tangled, altered and transformed.

Air Guitar run a success!
We’re pleased to say that Peter Kesterton’s Air Guitar had a very successful run in the Bristol Old Vic Studio, achieving higher than average sales for the venue — so we reckon it should have broken even with a small amount left over. We’re still awaiting the final sums from BOV — to whom we’re very grateful for the considerable help and support they gave us throughout.
Southwest Shorts 2006 update
We had 23 entries for our competition, Southwest Shorts 2006, and these are now being judged by TAPS at Shepperton Studios in Middlesex.
Catch Holby City
Our Honorary President, Michael Jenner, has an episode of Holby City titled We Gave Her All Our Love going out on Tuesday, 28 February. Word in the industry is that it’s a pretty good episode, so don’t miss it (or make sure you set your recorder if you’re coming to the SWS Open Workshop that night).
The Rod Hall Memorial Award
The Rod Hall Memorial Award will be presented every two years to an outstanding new playwright. Literary agent Rod Hall always believed in nurturing new, untried talent and would support his writers unreservedly. The Rod Hall Memorial Award will be a long-term commitment to the recipient, in keeping with Rod’s intentions towards his own clients.This award is intended to launch a writing career — the winner will receive a £5,000 commission to write a play for Paines Plough, together with ongoing representation from The Rod Hall Agency Ltd.

The British Short Screenplay Competition
The British Short Screenplay Competition, organised by Kaos Films, will give you the opportunity not only to have your screenplay produced, but also to be invited to the British Independent Film Awards and receive an award at the star-studded evening. All finalists will be invited to apply to the National Film and Television School and offered an interview with the writing school panel.
BBC/UK Film Council Film Network
Submit a short film you’ve already made to The Film Network, run jointly by the BBC and the UK Film Council to (possibly) have it showcased on their website. Film Network will also present 50 short films funded by the National Lottery.
