We’re carrying straight on from last season, without a break, with three meetings to take us right up to our three days of rehearsed readings in the New Vic on 2, 3 and 4 April. The next three meetings all take place in the Cooper’s Loft at the Bristol Old Vic. Ask at the bar on the first floor for directions. Everyone attending pays £1.

Make it big in the West with Theatre West
We’ve some great opportunities for new writing this month: Top of the list is Theatre West’s search for new 60-minute plays for their season at the Alma Tavern Theatre next autumn. Those of you who attended Ann Stiddard’s excellent discussion with us last week will know that the plays should preferably have a cast of four or less and be simply set. This is a great opportunity to make your name locally.
Strong stories for BBC Wales
BBC Wales is actively seeking new writers of compelling drama and comedy projects across all genres, whether original or adaptations, series, serials, singles, two- or three-parters, TV films or films with theatric potential. Some Welsh connection is preferable, ranging from a Welsh member of cast to a Welsh setting. Initially, all they want to see is a brief outline of 500 to 750 words. Ideas they carry forward will be submitted to either BBC1, BBC2 or BBC Wales. Stories must have a strong narrative drive that keeps the audience hooked from titles to credits.
BBC Talent seeks writers for medical dramas
The BBC Talent initiative is also seeking new writers for Doctors (30 minutes) and Casualty (50 minutes). You need to submit a completed script by 31 May 2001.
Laughs for Leicester
The Leicester Comedy Festival is seeking short comedy sketches with closing date of 20 April.
Rob’s Talented… at the Rondo
Southwest Scriptwriter Rob Houghton is directing Phyllis Nagy’s adaptation of the Patricia Highsmith novel, The Talented Mr Ripley, at the Rondo, Bath from Wednesday, 2 to Saturday, 5 May. See you there!
