Ask at the bar when buying a drink if you need directions to the meeting. Everyone attending meetings pays £1. Actors often talk about ‘finding their motivation’ but what does it actually mean from a writer’s point of view? Southwest Scriptwriters’ Chair, Andy Graham, will look at how to tighten up your writing by finding the objectives of your characters. As always, please bring a pen and paper as there’ll be a practical exercise.

Southwest Sounds
We have disappointing news on our plans to produce a member’s radio drama script. Following a huge effort by the group’s Secretary and Treasurer, John Colborn, to complete and submit a lengthy application form in January, the Awards for All Lottery grants scheme has turned down our funding bid on the grounds that we have won grants for similar projects in the past. Although we’ve never produced radio drama before, Awards for All decided that it couldn’t fund another project beginning with a competition to select scripts.
While we don’t have an immediate contingency plan to fund Southwest Sounds, we intend to look at other possibilities for making it happen. Watch this space for developments…
Page to Stage Theatre Company seeks scripts for the Alma
Page to Stage Theatre Company’s co-founders, Eddy Martin and Mike Haslett, are looking for two one-act plays to stage at the Alma Tavern Theatre this summer.
The company, which has previously presented Harold Pinter’s The Dumb Waiter and The Extraordinary Revelation of Orca the Goldfish by David Tristram at the Alma, will mount its latest show there over three days in late July.
Eddy and Mike will consider plays of any genre with a running time of between 45 and 60 minutes and a maximum cast of two male and two female characters.
Local Director Seeks Writers for Short Film Projects
Bristol-based producer/director Rupert Miles is looking for writers to work with him on short film projects. He is interested in working either on existing scripts or in originating new ones and plans to produce a number of short films to use as calling cards to build his reputation as drama director. Rupert has previously won the Royal Television Society Best Drama-Documentary Award for the BBC TV series Historyonics, and hopes that writers will see this project as a chance to gain further exposure for their work.
Indian Independent Producer needs scriptwriter for English-language projects
Vinay Dhumale, an independent producer with 35 years film and television experience in India, wants to hire a competent scriptwriter for English-language film projects. These will include a relationships drama, a comedy and a portrait film.
