Hot on the heels of our first February meeting last week, we’re back in the Coopers’ Loft at Bristol Old Vic, King Street, BS1 4ED for our second 02/20 outing tonight, Tuesday, 18 February.

We have some changes to the programme advertised in our January newsletter — see below for the updated line-up. On arriving for meetings, sign in at reception next to the box office between the main entrance and the bar, and take the lift to the Coopers’ Loft. Everyone attending pays £2.

Tuesday, 18 February at 8pm: BOV Writers survey findings and Open Workshop

Our first programme change combines a report on the outcome of market research conducted by Bristol Old Vic’s Writers department with a workshop session.

James Peries, BOV’s Literary Associate, will present the findings of a recent survey he and his team conducted on the scripts that score with theatres that accept unsolicited material — find out what work makes it to the top of the slush pile.

We’re also featuring Matt Sanders’ comedy sketch show Camp as Tits in tonight’s workshop session.

Tuesday, 3 March at 8pm: Love the Moon by Cat Brown

A meeting later than previously announced, Love the Moon is based on the inner experiences of four women living and loving in a former coal-mining town in Somerset.

Her Naked Skin this week at Circomedia

Her Naked Skin at Circomedia

Bristol Old Vic Theatre School is staging Her Naked Skin by Rebecca Lenkiewicz at Circomedia in St Paul’s until Saturday, 22 February.

The play, which, in 2008, was the first by a living female playwright to be performed on the Olivier stage at the Royal National Theatre, is the story of the suffragette struggle for a better future from Emily Davison’s death at the Epsom Derby in 1913.

The production is part of BOVTS’s season of LGBT plays it is presenting this month.

Paper Nation seeks under-represented writers for AI Story Lab

Creative writing incubator Paper Nation is seeking up to ten writers from Somerset, Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire or Wiltshire who ‘identify as belonging to a group which is currently under-represented in the writing, publishing, gaming, and theatre industries’ to take part in an AI Story Lab workshop in Bath in May. Three of the selected writers will have the chance to go on to paid, five-week placements with Paper Nation’s creative technology partners To Play For.

‘The people we want to reach don’t have to be tech-magicians, but they will need to have basic computer skills. They might be freelance or employed, but might equally be talented amateurs who fill their spare hours creating stories. We’re looking for people who want to harness the power of tech to breathe new life into their stories but may currently lack the technological skills.’
