The first of three talks by Steve whose own first radio play is to be broadcast on Radio 4 on 10 December (see below). Entry tonight will be £2.

Tuesday, 10 December at 7.30pm: Have-a-Go Hero by Tim Massey
Tonight, we feature a rehearsed reading of Tim’s play, which he’s written as part of his PhD course in Creative Writing.

Join us at Renato’s in King Street for a drink after each of these events.

 

Steve’s scripts on the radio and stage
Steve Hennessy’s radio play The Song of the Whale has been re-scheduled for broadcast on Radio 4 on 10 December at 2pm.

More about Steve! Two of his stage plays are being given rehearsed readings. First, on Sunday, 1 December at 7.30pm, Show of Strength will be reading Stairway to Heaven in the Newton Building at Bath College. The play is set in ancient Egypt and the reading is partially financed by Steve’s prize money from winning the Les Arnold Award for students on the Bath College MA course in Creative Writing. Then, on 10, 11 and 12 January, Show of Strength will be reading Act of Union as part of their Playreadings series at Quaker’s Friars in Bristol. Please try and support these events.

 

Edgar in Exeter
David Edgar, one of Britain’s leading playwrights and Chairman of the Theatre Writers’ Union will be attending a meeting of South West playwrights at Exeter and Devon Arts Centre, Bradninch Place, Gandy Street, Exeter on Saturday, 9 November from 2-4pm. One of the main points of discussion will be South West Arts funding cuts.

 

Guidance from Paines Plough
Paines Plough publishes an excellent guide, Notes for Playwrights, based on the company’s many years’ experience of reading scripts.

The company is bringing its 50th production to Bristol on 23 November — please try to support all new playwriting events.

 

Daisy Pulls it Off at the Hope Centre
Crumbling Walls Theatre Group will be producing Daisy Pulls it Off by Denise Deegan at the Hope Centre, Hope Chapel Hill, Hotwells, Bristol on 23, 24 and 25 November at 8pm.

 

Oscar Moore Foundation finances thrillers
The Oscar Moore Foundation is committed to providing an annual cash award to finance the second draft of a full-length screenplay for a thriller set in Europe.

 

Jessica on attachment to Birmingham Rep
Jessica Townsend has had more success with another theatre company — this time The Birmingham Rep where she is on an attachment with a small group of other new writers. The company hopes to produce a play by one of the group.
