Following the success of our first Zoom meeting last month, we’re back online for another this Wednesday, 8 July.
We plan eventually to meet again at Bristol Old Vic and then serve a blend of face-to-face and virtual events. Until it’s safe for us to gather again, though, we’re keeping calm and carrying on with video conferencing.
If you’ve been working on a scriptwriting project during lockdown and would like to give it an airing at one of our upcoming Zoom workshop sessions, get in touch using our ‘Book a workshop slot’ form to book some time for your work to be read.
How do I join meetings?
To join meetings, please do the following:
- Check the meeting dates below and tap or click the ‘I’m attending’ button within the listings of the session(s) you can make.
- Tapping or clicking the buttons opens up a panel headed ‘I’m attending on…’ beneath the listed dates, which shows those you plan to attend. Check that these are correct and delete any that are not by tapping or clicking the bin icon next to the dates shown.
- When you’re happy with the dates shown under ‘I’m attending on…’, tap or click on the ‘Checkout with PayPal‘ button.
- Follow the instructions to make your payment either by entering your debit or credit card details or by logging into your PayPal account. Please use the same name you’ll use to join the meeting on Zoom as we’ll only admit those whose names match those we have listed.
- When you’ve made your payment, you’ll receive automatic emails from PayPal and from Southwest Scriptwriters confirming that you’ve paid — you may need to check your spam or junk folders for the one from us.
- We will email you the meeting ID(s) and password(s) soon after we have received your subs payment. This part of the process is not automatic, so please don’t be alarmed if you don’t receive these details immediately — we’ll send them as soon as possible!

BOV Open Session still open
A reminder that the Open Session, Bristol Old Vic’s annual script submission window, extends throughout July this year.
The theatre’s literary team is seeking plays and musical scripts that you have redrafted to trim excess length, and is:
‘…excited by work that is distinctive and theatrical, with live staging at its heart. We’re attracted by stories that ask questions and tell us something about being alive today, pieces that in some way have relevance to our own lives and consider their audience.’
The team will offer feedback on its pick of the top 15 submissions and bespoke development packages to those writers whose work shows most promise. These opportunities will lead to ongoing relationships with the theatre and possible script commissions.
