A brief update this month because of late-breaking details of next Tuesday’s information session from Soho Theatre on its 2020 Verity Bargate Award. We’ll be back with a full bulletin including details of more upcoming autumn meetings in November.

Sign in at reception near the bar and go to the Coopers’ Loft at 6.30pm for Soho Theatre’s talk and to the Meeting Room for our open workshop session at 8pm — please ask BOV staff if you need directions. Everyone attending our open workshop pays £2.

Soho Theatre is launching its 2020 Verity Bargate Award with a series of 60-minute information sessions that arrives tonight at Bristol Old Vic.
Gillian Greer will talk about Soho Theatre and the upcoming award process. Gillian has been a senior reader at the National Theatre, creative associate at Clean Break theatre company, and is now Literary Manager at Soho Theatre.
The Verity Bargate Award is open to playwrights of all ages in the UK and Ireland with fewer than three professional production credits. Soho Theatre is working with the Character 7 production company on the award, which seeks ‘extraordinary plays from extraordinary new voices.’ The panel of judges includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, author and star of the multi-award-winning BBC sitcom Fleabag.
The Verity Bargate Award submission window is open between Wednesday, 20 November and noon on Friday, 20 December 2019. The winner — to be announced next year as part of Soho Theatre’s 20th anniversary celebration of its Dean Street premises — will receive £7500 for the exclusive option for the company to produce their script.
